Meet Dr. Erick Marigi

Erick Marigi, M.D. is a fellowship trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in the management of shoulder, knee, and sports-related injuries at the Mayo Clinic in Florida. He also serves as an Assistant Professor of Orthopedic surgery at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science. His goals for each patient – no matter how complex the problem – are to reduce pain, restore function, improve quality of life, and promote an effective return to desired activities.

Raised in Minnesota, Dr. Marigi attended St. Olaf College where he majored in Mathematics and Biology while serving as a team captain of the varsity football team. He subsequently received his Doctorate of Medicine (M.D.) at the University of Minnesota. He then completed his orthopedic surgery training at the perennial #1 hospital in the world, the Mayo Clinic. He was then selected and completed a specialized shoulder and sports medicine fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, considered the #1 orthopedic hospital in the U.S.A.
Clinical Expertise
As a comprehensive shoulder specialist, Dr. Marigi has technical expertise across the entire spectrum of shoulder conditions that allows for a longitudinal treatment approach. Specific areas include shoulder instability, labral tears, rotator cuff tears, and shoulder arthritis. Specific procedures include minimally-invasive shoulder arthroscopy, shoulder stabilization surgery, labral repair, rotator cuff repair, tendon transfers, shoulder replacements, and robotic-assisted shoulder replacement.
As a sports knee specialist, Dr. Marigi has technical expertise in the treatment of athletic knee injuries and knee preservation techniques. Specific areas include anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tears, meniscus tears, cartilage injuries, and patellar instability. Specific procedures include minimally-invasive knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, meniscus repair, cartilage restoration, patellar stabilization, and osteotomies of the knee.
As a former collegiate athlete and sports medicine specialist, Dr. Marigi understands the psychological and physical demand of pursuing elite athletic performance. He has extensive experience caring for a wide range of patients: elite high school and college athletes, professional sports players, recreational competitors, and otherwise active individuals seeking top-tier care. He has been a team physician and provided medical coverage for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Brooklyn Nets, New York Red Bulls, Rochester Grizzlies, as well as a variety of colleges and high schools.

Beyond clinical expertise, Dr. Marigi is internationally recognized as a clinician-scientist with authorship of over 100 peer reviewed scientific reviewed manuscripts, abstracts, and book chapters. He has also presented more than 115 academic shoulder and sports papers at conferences both nationally and internationally. This work has led to awards from national and international organizations such as the Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine, Arthroscopy Association of North America, Mid-America Orthopaedic Association, J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society, and the European Society for Surgery of the Shoulder and the Elbow.
